The University of Houston Libraries seeks a Resources Description Librarian with expertise in original and complex adaptive cataloging of unique materials and formats. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to projects that will ensure efficient intellectual access, discoverability, and accessibility of UH Libraries’ unique and special collections as part of its 2017-2021 Strategic Plan.
The Resource Description Librarian is a librarian position. Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Librarians’ Bylaws Document. They are expected to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional development. The UH Libraries support the ongoing professional development of librarians, and our goal is to recruit librarians committed to continuous learning.

Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program; Ability to work strategically and collaboratively with colleagues ; Experience in the creation of original cataloging for music materials, including scores and recordings; Knowledge in resource description for special collections and rare materials using DACS and DCRM; Experience in resource description of multiple formats using national cataloging standards (such as, RDA, LCSH, LCC, AACR2, and MARC); Knowledge of creating name authority records; Experience with integrated library systems and OCLC.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with ExLibris Alma; Experience with MarcEdit, ArchiveSpace, or similar; Bibliographic knowledge of one or more languages other than English ; Knowledge of forthcoming changes with RDA, FRBR, BIBFRAME, linked data and semantic web.Notes to Applicant : Official transcripts are required for a librarian appointment and will be requested upon selection of the final candidate.
