The Security Guard Supervisor performs supervisory duties and manages operational activities. Performs a protective and enforcement functions in a courteous manner. Maintain a safe, secure and welcoming environment for customers and library staff.
Work Assignments & Scheduling
Prepares and communicates monthly schedules and work to optimize the efficiency of security operations. Prepare, maintain, and communication monthly guard schedules using the library’s scheduling software, approves time off requests, and finds coverage when needed while following established guidelines. Works collaboratively with Branch Managers and other departmental managers on security matters and coverage. Participates in patrolling and monitoring of public and internal staff areas and the library parking lot. This position will be a working supervisor.
Management and Oversight
The supervisor is responsible for assisting the Director of Security with the daily oversight and direction of security staff to ensure the highest level of safety for both employees and customers. Responsible for maintaining appropriate staffing level to meet library operational needs for security.
Assists with hiring, scheduling, training, and performance management of security guards. Effectively communicates all pertinent information to Security Management. Ensures security guards follow policies and procedures.
Performs foot patrol of library facilities. Ensures security guards follow proper procedures and are actively monitoring environment. Monitors security cameras, and engage in enforcement in coping with emergencies, undesired conduct, disturbances and security threats to life and property and to maintain a safe environment. Ensures branch security guards are following proper procedures, preparing incident reports when required and actively monitoring security of their assigned branches. Ensures regular rounds of the interior and exterior of the Downtown library and branch libraries are conducted as outlined by departmental procedures. Leads by example.
Uses a two-way radio to effectively communicate with others in the Security department. Conducts investigations.
Emergency and Incident Response
Respond to staff calls for assistance. Initiate 911 calls for assistance from City Police or Fire Department as need. Respond to and provide emergency first aid and CPR. Performs other duties as assigned. Assures proper documentation of all incidents are recorded and information is disseminated and updated in timely manner to guards regarding banning and other actions taken regarding the incident.
