Senior Business Manager at Microsoft Corporation
Redmond, WA 98073
About the Job
Developer Division works at the center of Microsoft strategic initiatives - building the tools and services other developers use to build software for Azure, Xbox, Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Android, web, data science, and everything in-between. According to a 2018 Stack Overflow survey at https://insights.stackoverflow.com/survey/2018/ , our portfolio of products includes the two most popular code editors on the planet: Visual Studio and VS Code. We support developers using every language and platform imaginable including C#, Node, TypeScript, Java, Python, PHP, R, Visual Basic, F#, Go, Ruby, C++ and more.
To build tools and services that developers _truly love_ , we strive to create a team culture that's inclusive, customer-obsessed, data-driven, and committed to building quality products. As the Business Manager responsible for Team Culture, you'll help unlock the full potential of our team by leading programs for diverse hiring, career development, and employee retention that live-up to our team values.
**Responsibilities**
In this role, you'll talk with past and present team members to build programs for diverse hiring, career development, and employee retention. You'll work with our CVP, Chief of Staff, Directors, people managers and Human Resources to build a smart, collaborative, and diverse team that's the envy of engineering teams everywhere. You'll partner with other leaders to invent and drive programs from concept to experiment and into reality. Example programs from the last year include:
+ Trips to hire diverse international candidates
+ Personal and career development programs for new employees just out of college
+ Mentoring programs for team members of all levels & disciplines
+ Workshops, panels and training curricula for People Managers
+ New parent support programs and policies
+ Leadership skills training to help employees recognize and mitigate non-inclusive behaviors
This role provides the perfect mix of team development, technical depth and personal impact executed through a broad charter. The job is half anthropology and half program development. You'll study how team members thrive in a vibrant and highly technical environment and learn what prevents them from achieving their full potential. In response, you'll exercise generous creativity devising programs that address the needs of our team and enhance our business results.
How We Work
We treat team culture as a product that can be incrementally improved through rigorous experimentation, outcome measurement and the best practices of product development. You'll work with every discipline - including user research, design, product management and engineering - to build programs that enrich every team member's experience. You'll create feedback systems to measure the impact of your work through sentiment analysis, statistically significant polling, qualitative feedback and other proven research tools.
