SALARY: $5,147 - $6,256/mo.FILING DEADLINE: Midnight – March 26, 2019 Position DescriptionSenior Heavy Equipment Operator is the advanced working/lead class in the Heavy Equipment Operator series. Incumbents operate various types of construction, agriculture, and related equipment and provides lead direction to other workers engaged in the operation of similar equipment. Five (5) vacancies exist in the Street Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of six (6) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months. Effective March 18, 2019 the monthly salary range will be $5,276 - $6,413. Selection ProcessThe selection process may consist of the following: Written Examination - 25%: The written examination is designed to assess a candidate's knowledge of the care, use and operation of construction, agricultural and related equipment, ability to plan, layout, organize, assign, train and provide lead direction for the work of one or more crews, keep accurate records and establish and maintain effective working relations. Of those candidates who achieve a passing score on the written examination, only the top 20 scoring candidates plus ties will be invited to the performance examination. The written examination has been tentatively scheduled for the week of April 8, 2019. NOTE FOR REQUIRED ACTION: Upon final scoring of the written examination, only the top scoring candidates, plus ties, will receive an invitation to the performance examination. Those who do not respond to the invitation by the cutoff date will not be scheduled for the performance examination. Subsequently, the next highest scoring candidate will be invited. Therefore, it is your responsibility to ensure you check your email frequently to that you can receive and respond timely. Performance Examination - 75%: A panel of subject matter experts will be assembled to assess a candidate's ability to perform a set of job-related tasks which will require candidates to conduct a pre-trip vehicle inspection of a dump truck with trailer in accordance with DMV guidelines. Candidates will be tested on the safe and effective operation of 3 pieces of equipment including mandatory operational testing of: dump truck with trailer, motor grader and backhoe. Candidates must achieve a passing score on each performance section to qualify for the eligible list. Failure of one section of the performance examination will result in failure of the examination process. The performance examination has been tentatively scheduled for the week of: April 22, 2019 The City reserves the right to amend any phase of the examination process should there be a limited number of successful candidates. Should such amendment be exercised, a candidate's final score and placement on the eligible list would be based upon the completed test phase(s). Candidates must achieve a passing score on both the Written Examination and Performance Examination to qualify for placement on the eligible list.
