Aerojet Rocketdyne, a major aerospace corporation responsible for the design manufacture and operation of a number of critical US space and defense products is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for the Materials and Process Engineering (MPE) discipline for our facility in Los Angeles, CA, with additional responsibility for the materials and process organization at the Huntsville, AL, location.
This Materials and Process Engineering, Non-Metallic Materials Engineering senior management role provides leadership support and is accountable for the technical engineering management of our space and defense programs that require selection, evaluation, and design requirements of materials and processes used to produce rocket propulsion systems. This position requires knowledge and experience with both liquid and solid rocket propulsion environments applicable to space and defense systems.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)
50% - Plan, administer, and manage the activities, programs, and staff of the Non-Metallic Materials Engineering group within Materials and Process Engineering at the Los Angeles site, and in conjunction with the manager of Materials and Processes Engineering at the Huntsville site. Primarily responsible for management of engineering activities to provide design consultation in non-metallic materials and processes selection to achieve the desired performance characteristics of hardware for all Aerojet Rocketdyne space and defense programs. Activities include supplier selection, process development, materials evaluation, chemical management, obsolescence management, drawing reviews, the preparation of design review packages, and the preparation of specifications to support these activities as required. Good technical documentation of all decisions is also required. Ensure preservation of the Company’s intellectual property through documentation of current design and processes as well as innovative ideas. Keep abreast with the latest developments in innovative materials and process technology through supplier interaction, University contacts, and industry peers.
30% -Perform functional management responsibilities, including program staffing and performance, employee skill and career development, employee motivation, performance evaluation, salary planning, work prioritization and technical oversight of employee work product. Accountable for technical engineering management of projects and/or proposals in the areas of development, design, analysis, and production in accordance with company goals, policies, and schedules. Responsible for the department financial performance and mitigation to ensure department reporting metrics are in-line with established goals and plans.
20% -Provide short and long-range planning for engineering operations and implement approved plans; plan and direct the development and implementation of department systems, methods, standards, practices, and procedures; act as liaison between engineering staff and other organizations, and assure that activities within defined scope are accomplished in accordance with company policies, sound business practices and are in compliance with applicable regulations and requirements.
A Bachelor's degree in a Materials Science, Engineering, Chemical Engineering or similar discipline and a minimum of 14 years of progressive experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). A Master's degree in one of the above disciplines is preferred, but can be an MBA.
May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
