Sr Mechanical Engineer
Provide guidance in the design, development and operation of converting and supporting processes and products
Manufacturing Team, Converting Team, Leadership Team, Staff Resources
- Provide mechanical engineering design and support on capital and trial project work
- Provide mechanical engineering support on resolution of process and equipment problems
- Provide support and represent the mill asset teams in regards to mill sustaining and staff capital projects
- Utilize lean production management techniques to design and develop improvements to the manufacturing process
- Provide communication and training associated with capital installation
- Provide coaching and development to process and reliability technicians
- Maintain innovation planning and communication timelines
- Manage engineering change for capital planning
- Participate in on-going cost reduction programs
- Assist in managing the team’s maintenance and operating supply budget
- Provide support, and implement, safety improvement initiatives
The incumbent reports to the Engineering Technical Leader. The incumbent receives direction in the form of broadly defined objectives. Responsibilities include meeting team objectives in safety, quality, asset management, cost, and team development. Incumbent is recognized for technical knowledge in mechanical engineering and works within the technical team structure supporting trial and capital to the purpose of expanding our innovation capability, while providing flexibility and personal/organizational sensitivity.
This position typically requires a bachelor’s or advanced degree in engineering or a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent experience, and continuing self-development. Normally, 5 years of experience in a variety of mill and staff assignments is required. Demonstrated leadership in achieving results is required.

- Project responsibility of $1 MM to $10 MM
- Project team of 3 to 15 people
- Single or multiple projects
Safety: Promotes and participates in mill loss control management by utilizing Modern Safety Management Principles, World Class Manufacturing Principles, and compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
Environmental: Comply with local, state, and federal environmental regulations as defined by mill policies, procedures, employee training, ISO 14001, and site subject matter experts.
Quality: Improve process capability to deliver a reduction in defects and variability. Identify, develop, and implement products, processes, materials, systems, and procedures to achieve business objectives and adhere to federal regulations.

Design and Development: Lead the initiation, design and development of manufacturing, converting, and supporting processes to achieve unit objectives.

Security and Documentation: Provide guidance in security and documentation to ensure the retrieval of data and protection of proprietary information.

Internal Control: Lead assigned projects/tasks to meet unit objectives within applicable Corporate policies. Place emphasis on CFI and Internal Control.
