The Senior Principal Applications Engineer will support the Marketing and Engineering functions in growing the MKS Pressure and Vacuum Measurement (P&VMS) product lines by providing timely commercial and technical assistance to customers, field sales, field support, repair and MKS Customer Service personnel.
Working with MKS Sales' teams, the Senior Principal Applications Engineer will be responsible for Identifying new opportunities and proposing optimal solution from existing product portfolio or newly created configurations. The primary effort will be focused on supporting external customers with the application, integration and operation of P&VMS products. This support will include answering technical questions, responding to internal needs from other functions, and generally promote MKS products and solutions in the form of phone support, website communications as well as travel to customer sites.
Additional responsibilities include defining, qualifying and documenting special customer product configurations, and maintenance of customer documentation.
The Senior Principal Applications Engineer will be an integral member of the product development and support teams.
Provide timely responses to customers, both internal and external, for commercial and technical information related to the P&VMS products and their applications
Travel to customer sites (with local sales and/or applications staff) to discuss or present applications solutions, perform product demonstrations, support product installation and testing, or to assist with MKS product application issues
Perform tests or demonstrations to resolve customer applications issues
Be a key contact for MKS Worldwide Applications and Field Support, providing expert advice to local engineering staff supporting customer applications
Design and conduct tests (either in-house or at customer locations) to evaluate P&VMS products for particular applications. Report test results to internal and external customers
Be a focal point and a key interface between customers, field sales, marketing and engineering. Define and document special customer product configurations
Generate, review, and price special customer configurations, assist Sales and Customer Service in providing product quotations to customers
Actively participate in new product development teams, with responsibility for generation and maintenance of Product Specifications and manuals, as well as product testing (both internal and at the customer sites)
Contribute to short and long term product development and improvement plans by maintaining an awareness of MKS markets, customers, sales opportunities, competitors and products
Write technical notes, papers and articles
Prepare, conduct and participate in training and education programs focusing on product capabilities and applications
Develop sales tools such as product release packages, applications notes, competitive information, etc.
Knowledge and Skills:
BS in an Engineering or Physical Science, MS preferred
7-10 years’ experience in technical customer support or applications engineering
Previous direct experience with semiconductor equipment, vacuum equipment, or other process control instrumentation
Expected to quickly develop expertise on all MKS P&VMS products in terms of their basic design and operation, thorough understanding of product capabilities and limitations
Experience with analog and digital hardware interfaces
- Must be proficient in using basic laboratory tools, such as data acquisition system, oscilloscope, etc.
- Diligent in documenting and reporting requirements and results
Must be able to operate ‘hands-on’ as necessary when working at customer locations
Proficient in using productivity enhancing tools and all Office software
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills for working with customers and in-house personnel
Ability to travel up to 30% of the time both domestically and internationally
