A jail deputy with the Cassia County Sheriff's Office works at the Mini-Cassia Criminal Justice Center in Burley, Idaho. Jail deputies perform a variety of law enforcement duties related to the security, safety, order, operation and maintenance of the county jail facility. These duties include the detention and housing of inmates, booking and release procedures, armed transportation of prisoners, and the delivery of food services.
Jail Deputies are trained in all areas of jail operations. Deputies work 12 hour rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays. Candidates must be at least 20 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED certificate. Candidates will be required to complete and pass a physical readiness test, a criminal records check, a written examination, a background investigation, a drug screening, and a polygraph examination. Within a year of hire detention deputies are required to attend the 5 week Idaho POST Detention Academy (at Cassia County expense).
