A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SHIPYARD MARINE MECHANIC
As a Shipyard Marine Mechanic, you run the jobs. You ensure the proper handling of all equipment and tools at all times. To ensure that everything is always in good working condition, you keep up on routine preventative maintenance of all the yard equipment. You regularly inspect diesel power units, electric motors, generators, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other equipment, making any needed repairs and adjustments. As you disassemble electromechanical equipment, you note parts identification, configuration, and condition as needed. You install water lines, repair UHP guns, replace UHP cylinders, and check oil levels.
As you work with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components, you are a troubleshooter who fixes equipment problems efficiently and effectively. You replace faulty electrical components, such as relays, contactors, switches, motors, and position-sensing devices. Complying with all safety regulations, you maintain a clean and orderly work area. While your job is technical in nature, you also use your people skills to manage other team members and collaborate effectively on solving and preventing problems. You take pride in keeping jobs going through the proper handling and care of all our equipment and tools!
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A SHIPYARD MARINE MECHANIC
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5 years of relevant work experience
- Basic mechanical knowledge as well as an understanding of torque wrenches, impact wrenches, pumps, hydraulic pistons, hydraulic cylinders, and electric switches
- Ability to read mechanical and electrical blueprints
- Physical ability to lift and carry equipment and tools, bend, climb, and be on your feet for long periods of time in various types of weather conditions
- Ability to pass a drug screening
- Leadership skills
Manlift, air compressor, and forklift experience would be a plus but is not required. Do you have good troubleshooting skills in electrical and mechanical areas? Are you attentive to detail? WORK SCHEDULE
This full-time maritime mechanical job typically works60-70 hours/week during the day shift, including some weekends.
