Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in Melbourne, FL. As a Software Engineer, you will join a growing community of engineering professionals. The successful candidate will perform software development activities including designing, building, testing and supporting enhancements to existing enterprise applications. The target environment is composed of C++ language applications running on Linux.
This position offers the option of a 9/80 work schedule. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program needs, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls
Prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Supports formal test. Ensures software standards are met.
The successful candidate should possess strong problem solving skills and be able to work both independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision.
He or she will regularly interface with technical leads, customers and other stakeholders. The candidate must also be able to rapidly analyze and understand new tools and technologies, and integrate them into existing products and processes.
This position may be filled at a higher grade based on the qualifications below
This requisition may be filled at either a Software Engineer or a Principal Software Engineer level.
Education/Experience Basic Qualifications:
Software Engineer: Typical Minimum Education / Experience: 2 Years with Bachelor of Science; 1 Year with Masters. Degree must be in a STEM related program, preferably Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
Principal Software Engineer: Typical Minimum Education / Experience: 5 Years with Bachelor of Science; 3 Year with Masters; 0 Years with PhD. Degree must be in a STEM related program, preferably Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
Basic Qualifications for both Software and Principal Software Engineer:
US Citizenship is required with an active US Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance, adjudicated within the last 5 years
General SW Programming Skills, Software Design, Software Debugging, Software Documentation, Software Testing, Problem Solving, Proven Teamwork Skills, Software Fundamentals, Software Development Process, Software Requirements Generation and Development Analysis
Demonstrated C++ Software Development experience in Linux environment
Demonstrated experience interacting with databases using a Structured Query Language (SQL) application program interface (API)
Experience with Configuration Management Tools, Problem Reporting/Tracking Tools
Experienced user of Microsoft Office tool set for documentation and communication
Able to interact with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
Preferred Qualifications for both Software and Principal Software Engineer:
CompTIA Security+/DoD8570 certification
Linux System Administration experience
Demonstrated experience interacting with Oracle databases using an application program interface (API)
Experience with ClearCase configuration management and ClearQuest problem reporting tools
Experience with Java/Tomcat Servlets, and/or Java Server Pages, and/or HTML
Experience with Software Defined Radios (SDRs) via Gnu Radio/GRC, USRP/UHD
