Installs all types of special service circuits which may include voice-grade private line, 56k DDS, Fractional and full T-1, DS3, OC3 – OC192 Optical, Metro Ethernet and Business WiFi Networks at customer and end-user locations. Installs network premise wire, customer inside wire and jacks beyond the demarcation point for all DS0 and POTS services as required by the customer. Position utilizes knowledge and skill in outside plant components and associated cable test equipment, pole and ladder climbing, basic electronic and cable transmission theory, circuit layout records, and specialized circuit test equipment for DS0 and T1, DS3 and OC3 through OC192 Optical. Requires strong written, oral and customer service communications skills the ability to interface with multiple vendors, IXC’s, LEC’s, and CLECs, and the ability to coordinate tasks for large projects, and circuit rearrangements and equipment acceptance of HSI, Metro-E, Field Fiber MUX’s and Ethernet CPE equipment.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
A. Drives to site and installs, repairs, trouble-shoots, maintains, tests, rearranges and removes special service circuits/equipment.
B. Climb poles and ladders; works aloft and/or in confined spaces.
C. Performs cable connection via network interface arrangements.
D. Makes all tests and adjustments necessary to put equipment/special services circuits in operation.
E. Uses specialized tools and test equipment, schematics, circuit diagrams and manufacturer's specifications.
F. Confers and coordinates with other departments.
G. Conducts safety checks and ensures the assigned vehicle is in proper running condition, i.e., checks water, oil, tire pressure and fuel; maintain reports/records as necessary.
H. Works independently; decisions based on problem solving, technical knowledge, and capabilities of system.
I. Follows all appropriate laws, Company policies and procedures.
J. May be required to perform additional duties and tasks as required by the Company.
A. Tests – Results obtained in standard tests for this position must meet minimum requirements established by the Company, in accordance with Company policy.
B. Read, write and speak English.
C. Add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers.
D. Demonstrated effective knowledge of electronic and digital theory/principles.
E. Fundamental knowledge of special service equipment/network connections.
F. Manual dexterity, able to use small hand tools.
G. Physical condition to perform job duties including seeing/hearing; fingering/feeling/handling/reaching; bending/crouching/squatting/kneeling; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying weights in excess of 50 pounds (heavy work).
H. Obtain and maintain certification to climb poles and ladders.
I. Must possess the ability to perceive difference in colors.
J. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
K. Tolerance to work aloft and in confined spaces.
L. Demonstrated effective communication skills including tact and courtesy.
M. Working knowledge of service orders, trouble tickets and circuit diagrams.
N. Flexibility to work varied hours/days (holidays, weekends, overtime/call outs).
O. Must possess the ability to distinguish audible tones/levels
