Responsible for increasing MPD implementation globally by providing a solutions-based approach and developing specific and unique strategies and procedures to drill difficult wells and/or improve drilling performance. Provide support in planning, design, and execution of critical Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) jobs globally. The primary goal includes assessing opportunities with internal and external clients for enhancing utilization of MPD techniques and its derivatives for deepwater, offshore and land operations and ensuring global execution consistency. The Sr. MPD Drilling Engineers will be responsible for generating unique solutions to complex well challenges with the help of simulation and thorough data analysis and would propose unique strategies for mitigating the specific risks and challenges. They would also be responsible for training the geozones on special procedures, planning and execution methodologies along with identifying the opportunity, performing detailed MPD engineering and analyzing complex post drilling analysis for future improvements. The Sr. engineer will work closely with the customers, rig contractors, other service providers, sales and operations to develop a strategy to execute the well program. This role is client/product focused with direct responsibility in terms of engineering/operation performance, process optimization, technical support, operational procedures definition, P&ID review and optimization MPD programs. The role has presence in client’s office, onsite, district bases and offices.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1 Understand and comply with all Health, Safety, Environment and all other company policies of Weatherford.
2 Have an active role in assisting Sales/Business development group with client meetings and presentations on a Global Level.
3 Study and analyze offset well data and develop MPD strategies and solutions to drill and complete various complex oil & gas well globally for growing the MPD business in old and new areas.
4 Develop detailed well programs and calculation, advancing the MPD utilization and adoption / implementation along with drilling procedures with advanced MPD equipment.
5 Work with the global reservoir intelligence / solutions group to integrate drilling optimization, PP-FG analysis, wellbore stability modelling and overall well performance to provide a complete solution.
6 Support and/or conduct Hazid/Hazop, DWOP and well planning meetings.
7 If necessary, support equipment preparation, green tagging, and/or assisting with shipping equipment to job site.
8 Could support bids, client presentations, BSA etc., if required
9 Provide engineering support on MPD projects and to operations from the office and/or have presence at the rig or client office, if required.
10 Keep track of lessons learned and support document them in WISE or WPTS for conveyance of the issues or methodologies to various geozones globally.
11 Support all aspects of project preparation and proposals for common MPD wells, more for mentoring and training.
12 Prepare operating procedures in accordance to type of operation and optimize P&ID’s.
13 Keep constant communication with customers and WFT Management, updating them with results.
14 Manage single phase and multiphase, steady state and transient, hydraulic simulators.
15 Prepare and deliver technical presentation, engineering studies, end of well reports, etc.
16 Mentor junior/intermediate Field engineers within Managed Pressure Drilling.
17 Optimize the MPD process from planning to execution.
18 Write Real results, technical magazine articles and technical conference abstracts/papers.
19 Review, conduct, support and approve rig visit (onshore/offshore) reports and related flow process diagram and P&ID.
20 Provide a solutions-based approach to the client for MPD and related products
21 Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by supervisor or manager within the physical constraints of the job
- Engineering degree (Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical/Electronic preferred).
- Extensive experience in MPD/UBD and Conventional Drilling. Operator experience a plus
- Expert with hydraulic and multiphase simulators. Extremely good understanding of well construction, drilling hazard, well control and Drilling Engineering.
- Experience with planning and drilling O&G well, either MPD and/or Conventional
- Extremely good problem solving skills, deciphering data & analysis and communication, presentation skills required
- 4+ year’s relative MPD experience (+/- 2 year as Field Engineer) or 8+ years of Drilling experience (office / rigsite) in oil & gas
- Ability to travel both domestically and globally as needed.
- Project Management experience in minimum 5-10 projects.
- Experience running drilling & well planning software(s)
- Technical or operations experience with an operator in the field of drilling, completions, or reservoir.
- 15-20 wells exposure in onshore or offshore environment globally
- Conducted Risk assessment and mitigation workshops for Drilling and/or MPD
- At least 4 SPE paper presentations and publications
