Currently, Currently, HGL has a position open for a Project-level Geophysicist with a strong data processing and analysis background. This position will report through the Huntsville, AL office. The person hired may physically work out of a different HGL office. The Denver, Phoenix, Kansas, or Huntsville offices are preferred as work locations.
Will provide direct support to military munitions project sites in the processing and analysis of digital geophysical mapping (DGM) and advanced geophysical classification (AGC) data, report writing, and project planning. Data collection experience is also required.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Project oversight of geophysical surveys on munitions sites.
- Processing of DGM data (field and office) and development of anomaly investigation packages.
- Processing of AGC data (field and office) and development of prioritized target lists.
- Writing/reviewing memorandums, reports, and DUAs.
- Interfacing with Senior UXO Supervisors and project managers on staffing and resource needs for geophysical surveys including UXO technician escorts.
- Working with estimators during the proposal process.
- Reviewing and developing the geophysical survey portions of work plans/QAPP.
- Incorporating safety and quality standards during the collection of geophysical survey data.
- Coordinating with the other HGL Geophysicists for quality reviews of the data prior to client submittal.
Responsible for assigned tasks in conformance with directives set forth by HGL Policy, Director of Operations, and approved safety and health plans, munitions response Data Item Descriptions, and applicable client safety requirements (e.g. EM 385-1-1). Travel is required.
Must have excellent organizational and communication skills along with established expertise in the application of geophysics and related computer software for munitions response and environmental programs. Demonstrated knowledge/experience with AGC sensors (e.g., Metal Mapper family, MPV, UltraTEM, etc.) and data processing and analysis software. Experience with standard geophysical instruments used for site investigation (EM61, EM31, G858, etc.). Working expertise with GPSs, RTSs, and attitude sensors. Proven experience leading and training multiple data acquisition teams in the field for large-scale projects, developing nonstandard data acquisition platforms based on site conditions, and interfacing with federal government and other stakeholders. Must be familiar with applicable guidance documents applicable to DoD military munitions projects and the application of geophysics. Must have experience with the computer software provided for use with the Geonics and Geometrics instruments and related software such as Geosoft Oasis Montaj (standard package and UX Analyze) and MS Access.
Experience with other geophysical methods used for environmental site characterization a plus. Computer programming skills a plus.
5 + years of directly related experience in utilizing geophysical techniques in support of munitions (UXO) projects to include RI/FS and removal actions.
10+ years of directly related experience in utilizing geophysical techniques in support of munitions (UXO) projects to include RI/FS and removal actions.
Must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Geophysics, Engineering, or Geology.
A pre-hire drug test and physical is required. Some positions may require US Citizenship.
