The Strength and Conditioning Coach provides instruction and coaching to students in the Naval Special Warfare Preparatory Course. The coach has daily contact with junior sailors, and, as such, must adhere to the highest standards of conduct in their interaction with these sailors; and understand the student/instructor relationship, the duties of the coaches, and provide the experienced, professional, administrative, and technical support required to prepare students to accomplish program goals.
Duties
The Strength and Conditioning Coach provides instruction and coaching to students in the Naval Special Warfare Preparatory Course. The coach has daily contact with junior sailors, and, as such, must adhere to the highest standards of conduct in their interaction with these sailors; and understand the student/instructor relationship, the duties of the coaches, and provide the experienced, professional, administrative, and technical support required to prepare students to accomplish program goals.
Duties
- Perform and supervise physical training modules with students.
- Demonstrate the points of performance for the exercises associated with the Physical Standards Test, as well as ensure exercises are performed to standard.
- Perform physical testing in accordance with established guidelines set forth in the Navy Personnel Manual.
- Prepare students for success in selection and training pipelines by working with applicants to maximize their potential in aquatics and physical training modules. This includes guidance and application of physical preparedness and training techniques in swim stroke development with and without fins, water confidence, running, and lower and upper body development.
- Implement the established academic curriculum.
- Increase student awareness of physical standards.
- Facilitate training modules in front of candidates in various forums including classrooms and workout facilities.
- Plan and execute exit critiques. Collate results into a class report, along with providing recommendations for curriculum changes based on critique results.
- Provide medical attention, including CPR or AED devices.
- Bachelor of science or Bachelor of Arts in health and exercise science, kinesiology or related physical training field.
- At least three years of experience working as a strength and conditioning coach in a training environment within the last five years.
- Current Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certificate, as recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association; certification as a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach with Distinction (RSCC/D) is desirable.
- Current CPR/AED certification.
- Current American Red Cross Certification.
- Be able to meet minimum Physical Standards Test standards and maintain a fitness level to pass those standards on a yearly basis.
