The Water Infrastructure Team at AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Structural Discipline Leader for immediate employment in the Oakland, or Sacramento, CA office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate a combination of the following responsibilities as a professional or experienced engineer:
Lead the structural team in our Northern California area. The team supports the West Region Water Business Line in the water resources, water and wastewater treatment, and conveyance markets.
The successful candidate will preferably be specialized in the water treatment/waste water treatment design and will be a recognized leader in the field.
The candidate will also be required to lead the structural teams in the water resources design.
The Structural Discipline Leader will work under the direction of the West Region leadership to successfully execute projects, support the leadership in pursuing new opportunities, and help mentor and lead the structural staff in the Northern California area.
The successful candidate will work with or lead the teams in Oakland and Sacramento on the layout and design of hydraulic structures, water and wastewater treatment facilities, and other related structures. Experience with industry standards and requirements for these types of structures is required.
The successful candidate will be required to manage the structural teams in Northern California and support the Regional Department Manager in providing high-quality engineering services to our clients.
Performs work, which may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements. Competent in all conventional aspects of the subject matter of the functional area of the assignments, plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Support or lead design project teams. Delegate, oversee, and review work prepared by other engineers within the department.
Develop structural technical specifications, plans, and details. Prepare or lead engineering related calculations.
Verify compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards/practices. As necessary, modifies established guidelines, devises new approaches, applies existing criteria in new ways and draws conclusions from comparative situations.
Coordinate with other in-house engineering disciplines as needed.
Perform condition assessments and site visits as needed.
Bachelors degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
10+ years of experience
California P.E. License
Knowledge of concrete and structural steel design
Knowledge of computer structural analysis and design software.
The ability to work with, interpret, and apply national and local building, and specialized codes
Experience in managing staff and engineering teams
Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing
Ability to multi-task and be flexible and able to adapt to rapidly changing project requirements and deadlines
Ability to apply passion and enthusiasm for design in a collaborative and progressive team-oriented work environment
Master's Degree preferred
California Structural Engineer (S.E.) License is preferred
Knowledge of Modeling and Analysis of Water Structures
Business development experience including client relations, proposals preparation, and professional leadership activity
Experience in the design of water and wastewater treatment structures and related facilities
