The chosen candidate will be expected to walk into a very busy surgical position and continue to grow surgical volume through referral networking, working closely with the leadership team in medical oncology, radiation oncology, reconstructive surgery, and genetics. The individual must be team-oriented and have the ability to interact with our dedicated, determined and skillful multidisciplinary team who provide high touch, coordinated patient care.
Provides direct patient care for clinical patients for designated specialty
Functions appropriately as part of care delivery team through efficient use of resources and skills, both their own and those of other provider and staff
Chart in electronic format in accordance with licensure and scope
Quality improvement utilizes quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous improvement in delivery of patient care, patient outcomes or workflows
Surgeon trained in Complex General Surgical Oncology has specific knowledge and skills related to the diagnosis, multidisciplinary treatment, and rehabilitation required by patients with cancer, especially those with complex presentations or requiring complex general surgical oncology procedures, or with rare or unusual cancers.
Surgeons trained in this specialty are trained to interact with other oncologic specialists as part of the necessary interdisciplinary collaboration dictated by the multidisciplinary treatment of the cancer patient;
Participate in outreach community activities in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation;
Participate in tumor conference
Participate in disease specific work groups
Participate in Allina Health Cancer Institute surgical oncology practice
Earn oncology specific national CME credits annually
Participate in site specific General Surgery call coverage
Board Certified in General Surgery
Fellowship training in a Surgical Oncology prior to 2013, ACGME Complex Surgical oncology since 2013.
Completion of Surgical Oncology Fellowship
3-5 years’ experience beyond fellowship training is required
Monday-Friday elective practice
Night and weekend general surgery call coverage
