Technical Specialist at Fox Chase Cancer Center
The Technical Specialist in the laboratory animal facility works closely with the supervisor of technical services and training, the research community and the animal care staff. Coordinates and performs technical services provided to investigators and maintains an excellent working knowledge of experimental methodology and techniques with rodents. Understands and complies with SOPs, protocols and other applicable regulations. Collects data and maintains accurate and neat records. Performs clinical observations of rodents. Performs surgical procedures and blood collection in rodents. Occasionally responsible for hands-on technical in vivo rodent breeding support. Maintains a small colony of mice in a semi rigid isolator.
Bachelors Degree : Physical or Biological Sciences (Required)
Masters Degree : Physical or Biological Sciences (Preferred)
Combination of relevant education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
LAT - Laboratory Animal Technician (Preferred)
LATG- Laboratory Animal Technologist (Preferred)
2 Years experience working as a Scientific Technician II at FCCC or equivalent experience (Required)
Must have hands-on in vivo experience conducting rodent experiments including animal handling and dosing by various routes (PO, IP, SC, or IV) and collection of blood and tissues. (Preferred)
Must have an excellent understanding of animal welfare practices, husbandry procedures, animal health and veterinary care , enrichment program, experimental methodology and applicable regulations. (Preferred)
Must have the ability to manage multiple concurrent activities and projects, making effective judgments as to prioritizing, time allocation and attention to detail. (Preferred)
