Technical Support Chemical Engineer

Amalgamated Research LLC (ARi) is seeking a Chemical Engineer to work at its Research and Development facility in Twin Falls, Idaho. The duties include the provision of ongoing technical support to new and existing customers of ARi technology (primarily production-scale chromatography, ion exchange and fluid distribution & mixing – with a particular emphasis on beet thin juice softening and beet molasses desugarization).
The successful candidate will provide technical support to the Amalgamated Sugar Company, as well as to other ARi customers within the United States and across the world. This includes direct chemical engineering support, technical training, troubleshooting, assistance with process & equipment optimization and plant & process commissioning. Although much of the technical support can be provided remotely, the role will require travel to factories worldwide in order to build effective working relationships with factory staff and to carry out technical auditing or troubleshooting activities.
Additionally, the candidate may be involved in process research and development at a range of scales, from laboratory scale through to full-scale industrial trials to validate engineering data obtained at pilot scale.
Qualified applicants must have at least two years of relevant experience. Knowledge of the fundamentals of fluid mechanics and the basic unit operations of chemical engineering is required. Familiarity with the industrial application of adsorption processes (including ion exchange and chromatography) is desired. Preference will be given to candidates with experience of the unit operations of thin juice softening and molasses desugarization within the beet sugar industry.
The candidate must be able to independently lead and coordinate projects, while interacting with various groups within and outside the company. A combination of technical knowledge and excellent communication skills is required. The successful candidate should preferably have the demonstrated ability to write technical reports, and scientific papers. Experience in the provision of technical support to industrial operations or external customers would be beneficial.
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in chemical engineering;
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an engineering position;
- OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
