The Technical Writer is responsible for creating technical documentation from research and review of engineering, manufacturing, flight test, and supplier data. This includes but is not limited to airplane technical manuals, parts catalogs, and maintenance/flight operation procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and author maintenance and/or flight operation procedures in Cortona3D RapidAuthor suite.
Research and verify technical information to ensure interdepartmental approval of documentation for reliability and maintainability.
Interview engineers, production assemblers, and external vendors to gain insight into writing or revising procedures.
Write maintenance or flight operation procedures and process through the Teamcenter Product Lifecycle Management system.
Provide peer reviews and collaborate as needed with a team of technical writers/illustrators.
Attend change control board, document approval, and information gathering meetings as a representative of the Technical Publications department.
Other duties as assigned.
Education, Work Experience and Certification:
Experience in aviation technical writing is preferred. (Management will consider internships.)
Previous experience authoring documentation in structured authoring applications (such as RapidAuthor, Arbortext, Framemaker, XMetal, etc.) with an understanding of SGML, XML/DITA and ATA task numbering.
Bachelor of Science in Technical Writing and Communications, English, or other relevant education or experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively throughout all levels within an organization.
Ability to translate technical information into clear, concise and accurate procedures.
Working knowledge of technical publications regulatory requirements and industry writing specifications (ATA, GAMA, Simplified Technical English, etc.)
Proficiency in MS Office products.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.
Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.).
Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions.
Effectively communicate in Business English language.
Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.
Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 50 lbs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided “reach assistance technology” or “movement assist technology” (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dolly’s, robotics reach equipment, people movers, etc.), as required by job duties.
