The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Department of Surgery is seeking Trauma Acute Care Surgeons to join our growing team, at the only Level 1 trauma and burn center in the region. We receive a huge tertiary referral volume of trauma, burn and emergency general surgery from the West Texas/ Eastern New Mexico region. Our patient volume has doubled in the past 3 years, leading to the need to expand the division. This large, high acuity patient volume affords an excellent variety of surgical experience, a great opportunity for clinical/outcomes research and education.
All ACS surgeons follow a 12 hour shift model, with no 24 hour call. Elective general surgeons serve as back-up at all times. This model allows for work-life integration and dedicated time for administrative roles, education and research. In addition to the core requirements of covering trauma, emergency general surgery and the surgical ICU, there is the option (not a requirement) to participate in our ABA-verified burn center, develop a focused small elective surgical practice or explore other avenues that can lead to a well-rounded, fulfilled career tailored to the individual surgeons preferences.
The successful candidate must be BE/BC in General Surgery, with additional qualifications in trauma, burn and/or critical care. The candidate should have exemplary clinical skills, a team spirit, collegiality and an interest in teaching and/or scholarly activity. Faculty rank will be commensurate with experience.
The department is active in both basic science and clinical research, and our medical school was recently ranked #1 nationally among graduates as The best place to learn. Surgical education is a core mission of the department, and the acute care surgery section will include general surgery residents and medical students in addition to advanced practice providers. The Chair and senior faculty have a strong track record of helping newer members seamlessly become part of the team, and mentoring them in their career growth locally and nationally. Faculty enjoy competitive salaries benchmarked to national medians, along with a generous state benefits package which includes PTO, paid medical insurance, dental and disability insurance, as well as an attractive retirement package.
