Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS), located in beautiful Central New York, is accepting applications for a Trauma Medical Director to lead its team of general surgeons who take call for the trauma program. Currently MVHS is an ACS verified Level III and New York State designated trauma center with the ambition to become a Level II trauma center.
The ideal candidate will be a board certified general surgeon with added qualifications in Critical Care. Currently, there are three community surgeons providing trauma care. The practice will entail acute care surgery and critical care.
The Trauma Medical Director will supervise all aspects of the trauma program, develop an acute care surgery practice and provide critical care services. The TMD will be expected to participate in the Regional Trauma Advisory Committee as well as represent MVHS at the New York State Trauma Advisory Committee. MVHS is developing the necessary needs for a general surgery residency program.
The trauma program will be supported by Upstate Medical University and an academic appointment is anticipated. Support includes teleconferencing with Upstate Department of Surgery’s educational conferences and trauma PI programs for which CME is provided. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to provide mutually agreeable trauma and critical care services at Upstate. The TMD will be based in Utica. The successful candidate will help chose a junior trauma surgeon. AS community surgeons retire, the program will hire additional staff as determined by the TMD and hospital administration.
Mohawk Valley Health System is transforming health care from excellent to exceptional. By early 2023 Central New York will be home to a new regional medical center. MVHS is working with community partners to build a 373 bed, 672,000-square-foot hospital and integrated medical center in downtown Utica. This new hospital will ensure that accessible, high-quality and advanced medical care is available in this region- for today and tomorrow.
Mohawk Valley Health System provides a compensation package which includes a competitive salary guarantee with productivity bonus and quality incentives, thirty-five days paid time off, and CME allowance of $5,000.
