About Applications Development at UPS Technology:
Our Application Development teams use their expertise in programming languages and software design to develop next-generation technology. They are responsible for developing the applications which track and move up to 38 million packages in a single day (4.7 billion annually). This team works closely with all of our customers to build innovative technologies that are customized to drive our business and provide the ultimate customer experience. About this role:
The Senior Applications Developer provides input and support for, and performs full systems life cycle management activities (e.g., analyses, technical requirements, design, coding, testing, implementation of systems and applications software, etc.). He/She participates in component and data architecture design, technology planning, and testing for Applications Development (AD) initiatives to meet business requirements. This position provides input to applications development project plans and integrations. He/She collaborates with teams and supports emerging technologies to ensure effective communication and achievement of objectives. This position provides knowledge and support for applications development, integration, and maintenance. He/She provides input to department and project teams on decisions supporting projects.
The Senior Application Developer will be part of the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Mainframe group. The person should be able to effectively work and mentor with the following: Mainframe (TSO, ISPF), COBOL, JCL, ESP, MQ, VSAM, S/FTP/S, IBM Utilities, Syncsort, fileaid, ICE tools, Xpediter, Intertest REXX, Changeman or other version control product, Easytrieve, All IBM utilities, CICS, Gentran, RDX and Microsoft products ( Word, MS Project, Visio, etc). The candidate must have high level EDI knowledge and GENTRAN. He/She will supervise a group of people in the development, maintenance and support of the EDI Mainframe. These teams consists of UPSers and consultants. The person will lead or participate in Business Requirements and Functional Requirements, develop effective solutions based upon those requirements, Lead create/review detail designs, create/review coding and unit testing, create/review test scenarios/cases/scripts, review test results for accuracy, audit change packages for thoroughness and document/review implementation planning and post implementation reviews. In addition, the Senior Applications Developer will provide coaching to team members, provide technical guidance to team members, create/update project plans and various status reports, analyze current processes and recommend process improvements and effectively work with support groups, external applications, customers, BAs and CIM to develop solutions.
- Expert with COBOL Programming and MVS/JCL
- Must have high level EDI knowledge and GENTRAN
- Knowledge of Expediter and Technical Knowledge of Hardware & Software
- Data Analysis, technical Analysis, troubleshooting skills, detail oriented, analytical, Application Lifecycle Methodology and the necessary documentation, ability to successfully multi task, strong communication skills, mentoring skills, disciplinary skills, coaching skills, problem solving and organizational skills, resource planning
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent required. Master's degree preferred.
