Duties include database development support, research, process automation, documentation, and support of database deployments. A Jr DBA will be responsible for database administration tasks to assure the availability, performance, integrity, and security of databases for large scale Data Warehouse / Decision Support Systems. Duties include database support, deployments, operational support, research, process automation, documentation, database upgrades, backup/recovery, DR testing. **Essential Responsibilities** Perform all Database Development duties + Participate in support of all development activities + Participate in team and meetings as well project team meetings + Work closely with IBM Watson Health data warehouse team (project lead, data modelers, technical team, ETL developers, Cognos Developers) + Ensure compliance with all technical specifications + Ensure that department documentation is up to date and accurate + Assure the database code is written for working with Very Large Databases + Research and recommend database development best practices + Plan and manage project tasks, schedules, and resources related to database development + Communicate with the customer through formal correspondence + Mentor less experienced database developers and perform developer peer review + Diagnose and solve complex problems including non-functional problems such as performance issues by identifying workarounds, and driving resolution / "owning" the problem + Participate in 24x7 on-call support and planned downtime maintenance activities + Provide front-line database support for customer-facing applications and databases + Assure the availability and performance of the different database environments + Backup/recovery strategy and planning + Participate in disaster recovery exercise planning and execution + Responsible for problem escalation to Oracle Support and third parties as necessary + Plan and manage project tasks, schedules, and resources related to database administration + Communicate with the customer through formal correspondence + Work in conjunction with other project components to define data, storage and retrieval requirements + Diagnose and solve complex problems including non-functional problems such as performance issues by identifying workarounds, and driving resolution / "owning" the problem **Required Technical and Professional Expertise** + 5 + years working with large Oracle data warehouses + 5 + years writing pl/sql and sql code + 2 + years working as an Oracle DBA + Experience in transforming large data in a data warehouse + Experience with Inmon and/or Kimball data modeling approaches + Strong query tuning and performance problem solving skills + Strong SQL DDL, DML, PLSQL, and SQL coding skills + Provide front-line database support for customer-facing applications and databases + Assure the availability and performance of the different database environments + Ability to own the problem to resolution + Design and implement new technology and database features + Plan and manage project tasks, schedules, and resources related to development/database administration + Diagnose and solve complex problems + Excellent verbal and written communication skills + Experience writing software design technical specifications **Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise** + Previous experience working with healthcare databases or working with healthcare data and regulations + Recent experience with Oracle 12c + Experience with Data Warehouse Data Vault 2.0 + Experience with IBM UDB/DB2 Data Warehouse + Experience working with Oracle Exadata + Experience with Oracle RAC + Experience with Oracle RMAN + Experience with Oracle Grid Control + Experience with Informatica + Experience with Data Stage + Experience with Cognos + Experience with Tableau + Experience as a DBA managing large multi-terabyte databases **About Business Unit** IBM Watson Health is pioneering a new partnership between humanity and technology with the goal of transforming global health and revolutionizing many aspects of the medical and pharmaceutical industries, as well as government sectors.
