The University Technology Office (UTO) Development team at ASU is seeking a motivated individual to join our high-performing team. The UTO is at the forefront of developing IT platforms and tools that enable student success and add value to the student experience. The Web Site Specialist will contribute to further ASU's global engagement by leveraging their expertise to help build and maintain the university web presence and modernize it.
This role will work closely and collaboratively to design, create, develop, enhance and maintain the user experience through web content, tools and related functions across the university.
Depends on experience
- Collaborating with colleagues on coding, source control management, technical reviews, and troubleshooting.
- Developing accessible front ends for sites and apps using current standards and tools.
- Learning and improving tools and techniques established by the development team.
- Interacting with project managers, senior developers, quality assurance staff and customers.
- Supporting customers in their use of our applications and systems.
- Maintaining technical currency and taking advantage of professional development opportunities.
- Participating in relevant technical communities at ASU and beyond.
Associate's degree in Information Technology, Business, Communications or closely related field AND three (3) years web content, graphic design or electronic publishing experience, OR, any equivalent combination of experience, and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
The successful candidate will have front-end development and site building knowledge, preferably with some back-end development experience. Preference will be given to those able to demonstrate knowledge and experience with:
- Web accessibility best practices for WCAG 2.1 compliance
- HTML5, CSS3
- Git and GitHub, especially working with multiple branches
- JIRA or similar ticketing system
- Test Driven Development
- Mobile and/or responsive web design
- Drupal or Wordpress theme development
- Drupal module or Wordpress plugin development
- Knowledge of OOP principles in PHP 5.x and greater
- Communicating with stakeholders and end-users
- Working in a team
- Meeting deadlines
- Managing several projects at once
- Staying current on secure web programming techniques
- Work environment is a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking.
- Use office equipment including a desktop computer.
- Lift up to 20 pounds.
- Clearly communicate to perform essential duties.
- Receive regular review of completed tasks.
