Our Welders build the toughest scales in the industry. Performs wire feed welding to satisfactory standards required to complete jobs. Lays-out and fits various parts and assemblies. Uses many types of welding equipment set up in a variety of positions, such as flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead. Operates pencil grinders, disk grinders, cutoff wheels, hand drills, drill presses as needed. Ensures high quality work and safe working practices.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/MAJOR TASKS
Performs wire feed welding to satisfactory standards required to complete jobs. Uses many types of welding equipment set up in a variety of positions, such as flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead.
Welds plate junctures, both vertical, horizontal, and pipe to the high standards.
Operates pencil grinders, disk grinders, cutoff wheels, hand drills, drill presses as needed to clean and grind welds.
Operates overhead cranes to move materials and related items. Turns and moves scales from fixtures.
Uses basic measuring equipment such as calipers, steel rules, etc. Verifies position of metal components in assembly, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and rule.
Applies a basic understanding of blueprints and tolerances that relate to assigned tasks.
Moves assembly to next operation or storage area using electric crane.
Works in a manner in which quality of work and safety while performing work are top priorities.
Keeps work area organized and as clean as possible while working and clean up all tooling, machinery and work area when finished with each job.
Notifies direct supervisor of any equipment or tooling that is damaged or not working properly.
Maintains accurate records of time and quantities, etc. If you know of incorrect time or quantity in folder, notify supervisor so it can be corrected.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists with shop clean-up.

Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Two (2) or more years welding on structural steel experience.
Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of the practices, materials, methods, and tools of the welding trade.
Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precaution of the trade, and of the properties of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Good communications skills.
Oxygen-acetylene cutting equipment skills.
Certificates, licenses, training, or other job-related requirements
Pass practical welding tests as part of the pre-employment process.
Purchase of very basic tooling, as deemed necessary by supervisor.
No current restrictions prohibiting regular lifting of 50 lbs.
No current restrictions prohibiting infrequent lifting of 75 lbs.
